Knight of the Month for August 2010: Andy Anderson
This Brother Knight is a member of St. Joseph Parish, where he faithfully serves as an usher and greeter every week. He's been a member of our council for 14 years and has participated in many ways, including a bingo team, catering events, our seniors group, and special projects. Last month this Brother saved the day at a picnic lunch for Special Olympics athletes and their families. The day before we were scheduled to travel to Purceville and feed over 100 guests, a pickup truck that we were planning to use broke down. At the last minute this gentleman provided his truck and trailer which were more than adequate to transport our grill and supplies. He's one of those Shining Knights who is well known for having a great sense of humor and helping those in need.
Congratulations to our Knight of the Month: Andy Anderson.

This Brother Knight is a Third Degree member who joined the Order less than a year ago, but he's already a familiar face around the Barn. He frequently attends our Friday dinners and volunteers to help behind the bar. He has also participated in other activities and events, including KOVAR collections. It seems this gentleman always has a friendly smile and a good word for others. We look forward to his involvement with our activities for many years to come.

Fr. Pat Kelly, Our Past Worthy Chaplain (June 2010)
This Brother Knight has played a key role on our leadership team for the past four years. The demands of his vocation limit his ability to be with us. But when he is present, he never fails to provide words of inspiration to the members. He always remains in touch with our activities via e-mail, and sends notes that he is praying for our Brothers who are sick or in distress. I know that I can count on him to provide spiritual assistance. This member brought a wonderful idea to the council officers for an evening of musical entertainment. Because of his initiative, a large group enjoyed a free concert at the Barn featuring the beautiful music of a flute and guitar duo, Aisling Agnew and Matt MacAllister. This Brother's primary responsibility is director of fund
raising for the Society of African Missions, and in this role he travels throughout the world. We encourage all members to consider participation in the Birthday Greetings program that he developed to raise funds for this worthy cause.
In recognition of his many contributions to our council, it gives me great pleasure to name our Worthy Chaplain, Fr. Pat Kelly, as our Knight of the Month.
Congratulations!

David LaCroix (May 2010)
This brother Knight has become an active member of the council over the past few years. He’s a parishioner at St. Joseph Church, and supports the youth ministry as a leader for their summer work camp team. He’s also involved with the young adults group at Our Lady of Hope parish. This gentleman frequently attends our Friday Night Dinners or other events, and often brings a few of his friends along. In the past few months he also recruited two of them as new members. We appreciate his contributions to support Good Samaritan Council.
I’m pleased to name David LaCroix as our Knight of the Month.
Congratulations!
Len Grus Grand Knight
Scott Bayles (April 2010)
The Knight of the Month is a member of St. Theresa Parish. He and his daughters attend many of our events and often volunteer to help. This Knight always brings us new ideas on how to raise funds. Again this year he raised $1,500 for our council charities through the March Madness game. He also chaired a committee that assisted the Grand Knight in updating our scholarship program to better serve our parish communities. His efforts expanded the scope of our Helping Hands program and our presence within the community. We have provided charitable service to several groups ranging from a soup kitchen in the District of Columbia to an Abused Women's Shelter in Loudoun County. This Brother Knight reminds us that charity is not only gifts of money, but also gifts of service to those in need. And finally, I have to say this gentleman is one of the best promoters of fraternalism within our council. His enthusiasm for the Knights brings out the best in other members.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council it gives me pleasure to name Scott Bayles as our Knight of the Month.
Congratulations!

Wayne Winters (March 2010)
This gentleman is a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer Church. He’s been a Knight for 22 years and is one of those members you can always depend on to support our activities with his time and talents. For many years he has been one of the best cooks in our kitchen. Last month he took the lead role in preparing a meal for 150 guests after our Third Degree ceremony. We received numerous compliments on the food and hospitality. He has always been involved with the Compass and Anchor Club, but in the past year his role on the board has escalated to include many of the building maintenance issues. We truly appreciate his willingness to serve the council and help us to maintain a spirit of fraternalism.
It’s with pleasure that I recognize our Knight of the Month: Wayne Winters..
Congratulations!

Eric Moorehead (February 2010)
This Brother Knight is a parishioner at St. Theresa Church and has been a member of our council for 5 years. He volunteers for several activities, including a bingo team, KOVAR, and Special Olympics. Last week he served as our photographer at the Special Olympics dinner, and he did a great job in capturing the memories of the evening. Also, his daughter usually comes along to assist her Dad. It’s great to see them working together in a spirit of Charity.
I’m pleased to honor our Knight of the Month for February: Eric Moorehead.
Congratulations!

Ed Linek (January 2010)
This Knight is an Honorary Life member of the Order. He joined the Knights in 1981 and has contributed a great deal of his time and efforts to Good Samaritan Council over the years. He can be found at many of our activities including bingo and Friday Night Dinners, and he is one of the leaders in our seniors group. This Brother has also been an active member of the Sterling Ruritan Club and other service organizations. During the Christmas season, he brings the spirit of Santa Claus to kids of all ages not only here at the Barn, but at nursing homes and other locations in our community. He has more energy and
enthusiasm than some men half his age. We are very fortunate to have this gentleman in our council.
Our Knight of the Month for January is Ed Linek.
Congratulations!

Ray Bradish (December 2009)
This gentleman is one of those Brother Knights who are the backbone of Good Samaritan Council. He’s been an active member for almost 20 years, and the Grand Knight can always count on his support and ideas on how to make our council more effective. This Brother generously donates his time on our bingo and breakfast teams, and he has served in a leadership role on our Helping Hands projects. He also takes time to visit those who are ill or in distress. During our recent Advent Day of Reflection he made a public presentation of a wonderful gift to our Chaplain Fr. Pat Kelly (a book written by the late Fr. Michael Kelly of St. Francis Parish in Purceville).
Currently this Brother serves as Recorder of our Council, and we appreciate his diligent recording of our business meetings.
Our Knight of the Month for December is Ray Bradish.
Congratulations!

Steve Holland (November 2009)
This Brother Knight is an enthusiastic new member of our Order who took all three of his Degrees in February 2009. He has served as an usher at St. Theresa Church. When the council needed a representative for recruiting at the parish picnic, this Knight answered the call in a big way. He did an outstanding job in recruiting four new members and one transfer member during the afternoon. We are fortunate to have this gentleman in Good Samaritan Council and look forward to his participation in our activities throughout the year.
I’m proud to announce our Knight of the Month for November 2009, Steve Holland.
Congratulations!
Len Grus Grand Knight
Bob Lanier (October 2009)
This Brother Knight is a parishioner at St. Theresa Church. He has a thankless job in the council and works hard behind the scenes. Over the past year he made a lot of phone calls and completed a great deal of paperwork to bring our membership records up to date, as part of the formal suspension process for about 70 members who have not paid their dues. This project is almost finished and will save our council almost $800 per year in Supreme and State Council assessments. This member’s dedication to his position and attention to detail is greatly appreciated by council officers and members. He has also worked bingo, participated on Degree teams, and many of our other activities.
It gives me great pleasure to honor our Knight of the Month for October 2009: Financial Secretary Bob Lanier.
Congratulations!
Len Grus Grand Knight
Steve Schultz (September 2009)
This Brother Knight does a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make sure our bar and food service operations run smoothly. Many people don’t realize how much of his time and talents are required to keep the Barn operating. In the past month, he was instrumental in assisting the Grand Knight on short notice to coordinate the logistics for Bill Furlong’s memorial luncheon. This event was attended by approximately 100 people and we received many compliments. It was a great way for our council to honor a departed Knight and show support for his family.
This member attends almost every Friday Night dinner, and participates in numerous catering events. He helped our rental agent develop catering packages that may attract new business for the Compass and Anchor Club. And, he brought us an outstanding new member when his son joined our council last month.
It gives me great pleasure to honor our Knight of the Month for September 2009, Steve Schultz.
Congratulations!

Everett Barnes (August 2009)
This Brother Knight is a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer Church. He has played a critical role in the operations of our Council every week for more than 10 years. The value of his dedicated service in managing our weekly bingo games is immeasurable. He makes it his business to know most of the players well and creates a loyal clientele for our games. Recently he worked to update the games and attract new players. In addition to being here on Tuesday evenings, there’s a lot of paperwork behind the scenes that many people don’t realize. This Brother maintains our records in compliance with state regulations. It would be extremely difficult to
replace him as bingo manager. In addition, this Knight serves as captain of our Second Degree team and has a key part on the First Degree team. His skill and professional performance on the Degree teams makes those ceremonies memorable for those in attendance.
It is my pleasure to honor our Knight of the Month for August 2009: Everett Barnes.
Congratulations!

John Reaser, PGK (July 2009)
This Brother Knight is one of our younger members and has been a member of the Order for 7 years.
Despite his youth, he stepped forward and emerged as a Council leader. In the past year he demonstrated
maturity beyond his years and maintained a positive attitude under challenging circumstances.
We appreciate his leadership and personal sacrifices for the good of our Council.
This year he will continue his service in the role of trustee, and will coordinate the kitchen crews
for our monthly breakfasts. This gentleman also provides community service as a volunteer coordinator
for the Wolf Trap Children’s Festival. It is my honor to know this Brother as a friend and work
with him as a fellow officer.
The Knight of the Month for July is our immediate Past Grand Knight and Worthy Trustee,
John Reaser.
Congratulations!

Emer Credo (May 2009)
The Knight of the Month for May 2009 is a member of St. Theresa's in Ashburn. For the past several months this Knight has taken the
initiative to take over the webmaster job from a Brother Knight who was no longer wanted the job. This Knight was able to quickly learn the system
that we use and improve upon it. He totally recreated the web site of both the Council and Compass & Anchor Club (C&A) to make the flow and
movement of the web sites easier to navigate. This Knight also added custom made graphics to make the site more presentable to our members and
potential clients of our catering business. Most recently this Knight created a KOVAR sign in page that allowed members to login and sign up for
whatever shift they were able to work. This made the volunteer schedule highly visible and allowed people to see the schedule in real time.
We hope to use this functionality in the future with other projects that we are involved in.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus, it gives me great pleasure to name Emer Credo as the
Good Samaritan Council Knight of the Month for May 2009.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
Paul Mich (January 2008)
The Knight of the Month for January 2009 is a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Herndon. For the past
year this Knight has taken over the responsibilities of running the blood drive at St. Joseph’s. Two weeks prior
to each blood drive he coordinates the signup of donors and volunteers. His behind the scenes work makes the
blood drives run smoothly and efficiently. Because of his dedication to running the St. Joseph’s blood drive
they are able to collect around 60 units of blood each time. This is a great community endeavor that helps
support the local blood banks.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus, it gives me great
pleasure to name Paul Mich as the Good Samaritan Council Knight of the Month for January 2009.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
Len Grus (December 2008)
The Knight of the Month for December 2008 is a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Herndon. This
Knight has been an active member of the council. He is a regular on one of the Bingo teams and was involved
with helping to come up with ideas to make the Bingo games more profitable for the council. For the past year
I have worked closely with this Knight and he has been a great springboard to bounce ideas off of. He has been
a great second hand man making sure that council activities are being planned and running on schedule. He has
done a great job informing the members on the activities that are going on within the council. Prior to the
Columbus Day Parade he handed out leaflets to the neighbors in the surrounding areas informing them about
the parade and I’m sure it helped spread the word and got more people to come out and watch the parade.
Throughout the first half of the fraternal year this Knight has been a great asset to the council and has always
been there to help with an activity when called upon.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus, it gives me great
pleasure to name our Worthy Deputy Grand Knight Len Grus as the Good Samaritan Council Knight of
the Month for December 2008.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
Bob Lanier (November 2008)
The Knight of the Month for November 2008 is a member of St. Theresa’s in Ashburn.
At St. Theresa’s he is an active member of the men’s society. For the past couple of
years he helped run a pancake breakfast to help raise money for the youth work camp.
This Knight has also been an active member of the council. He has held various office
positions with both the Council and Compass & Anchor Club. For the past year this
Knight has served the council as our Financial Secretary. Since taking over this vital
role he has taken it upon himself to clean up the member rosters between the Council
and Supreme. He has also researched and issued Honorary & Honorary Life
membership cards to members that had reached the age and membership requirements.
This Knight has been steadfast in following the strict Supreme procedures on
contacting and processing paperwork to remove over 100 members that are currently in
arrears with their dues. Thanks to his dedication we have updated contact information
on several Knights and received past dues from members in arrears so that they are now
back in good standing with the council.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of
Columbus, it gives me great pleasure to name our Worthy Financial Secretary Robert
Lanier as the Good Samaritan Council Knight of the Month for November 2008.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
David Uhl (October 2008)
The Knight of the Month for October 2008 is a member of Christ the Redeemer’s Parish in Sterling. Every
year the council ushers the Christmas Eve and Easter Vigil masses and this Brother Knight is always there to
help with ushering. He is an active member on one of the Bingo teams. Besides his normal Bingo team, he has
been coming out other weeks to help as well. Last week there were only 3 members of Bingo team present to
host our Bingo guests. This Knight showed up and helped make a hectic night less stressful. This Knight is a
constant presence at the Friday Night Dinners, whether eating or helping out as needed. He even stayed late to
help with the clean up after the latest Sunday Breakfast. Thanks to his behind the scenes work, this Knight has
been a great help to the council.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus, it gives me great
pleasure to name David Uhl as the Good Samaritan Council Knight of the Month for October 2008.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
Don Wenneman (September 2008)
The Knight of the Month for September 2008 is a member of St. Theresa’s in Ashburn.
This Knight is very active in the council, both on the front lines and behind the scenes.
He is a regular volunteer on one of the Bingo teams. Each week he is at the Barn taking inventory of
linens and supplies and reviewing the event usage sheets. For the past couple of years he has served
as a board member of the Compass & Anchor (C&A) Club. In his duties as C&A Treasurer this Knight has
gone above and beyond the job description. He has investigated different vendors that could be used
for all the services that we contract for. His research resulted in us changing several contracting
companies, which has saved the C&A countless amounts of money. A good example is the previous linen company,
which he discovered was over charging us for items we never used. The new linen company he found charges
less and is more accurate in their accounting. His dedication to the C&A Club and the council has
resulted in great cost savings since implementing the changes in contractors.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus,
it gives me great pleasure to name our C&A Treasurer Don Wenneman as the Good Samaritan
Council Knight of the Month for September 2008.
John Reaser III Grand Knight
Robert Henry (August 2008)
The Knight of the Month for August 2008 is relatively new Knight, having joined the order about six months
ago. You can see this Knight and his family at St. Joseph's every Sunday morning for mass. While new to the
area and parish, he has been a regular attendee at St. Joseph's Men's Society and is quickly becoming an asset
to the Parish. When asked to join the order, he quickly took his first three degrees within a week, a modern day record.
I'm sure he can't wait to take his 4th degree in November. Since joining the council he has been a regular at the
council meetings and various council events. When our Treasurer was looking for a replacement tis Knight stepped up
to take on the job. He was able to quickly take over the position and has started to take a proactive approach to the
job and streamlining the job duties. Besides becoming an asset to his church, he has become a major asset to our Council.
In recognition of his service to the Good Samaritan Council and the Knights of Columbus,
it gives me great pleasure to name our Worthy Treasurer Robert Henry as the Good Samaritan
Council Knight of the Month for August 2008.
